Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Jay Vargas-Zachary, LCSW
I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Women & Gender Studies from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2006 and my Masters in Social Work from the State University of New York-Buffalo/University of Texas at San Antonio in 2009. During my graduate education I completed two internships, one with HeadStart in Buffalo, NY and the other with the Childrens Bereavement Center in San Antonio, TX. While working in San Antonio as a Licensed Master Social Worker(LMSW), I completed two years of clinical supervision in order to obtain the clinical license that allows me to practice independently today.
My work in the social service field dates back to 1998 when I began volunteering at Camp C.A.M.P., a camp for children with special needs located in the Texas hill country. I have since worked for a variety of public service and non-profit organizations. I have experience working with trauma survivors, the mentally ill, homeless women, impoverished youth, and medically fragile children and adolescents. I have a passion for working with children with special needs and their families as well as a lot of experience working with Autism Spectrum disorders. I am strongly committed to providing comprehensive, quality counseling services to the LGBT community and have a special interest in working with Transgender youth. From 2008 to 2015 I provided both individual counseling and facilitated grief and loss support groups at the Children's Bereavement Center of South Texas and from 2014-2016 taught graduate level Social Work at Our Lady of the Lake and the Worden School of Social Services.
On a more personal note, I live in San Antonio with my spouse Pat, our daughter Ellis, and our four-legged children: Samba, Bow, Nakita & Trick.
